Emily grew up in beautiful Santa Barbara and spent the first years of her career in the San Francisco Bay Area and Portland, Oregon before returning to her hometown and joining The Cearnal Collective. She holds a BA in Architecture from UC Berkeley and a Master of Architecture from University of Oregon. With work experience spanning commercial tenant improvement, workplace, multifamily housing, and historic renovation projects, she appreciates the challenge of shifting scales and project types.

An advocate for walkable, bikeable communities, Emily was drawn to architecture because of the impact that well-designed spaces can have on people’s day-to-day lives. She believes in the importance of context, sees beauty in what already exists, and adopts a “less is more” attitude to minimize our human impact on earth.

Outside of work, Emily enjoys an active lifestyle in our city of year-round sunshine, and can be found hiking in the mountains and biking around town. Having always had an artistic side, she also practices ceramics, finding that the iterative nature of working with clay influences her design process in all of her creative endeavors, both professional and personal. And as the Collective’s resident cat person, she enjoys a cozy evening at home with her cat as much as she enjoys an evening spent cooking with friends and loved ones.
